Behind The "Reality" - page 2 - A Typical Week
A Typical Week on Nashville Star
Once you got back and production began in earnest, how did a typical week go for the contestants?
Our week really started on a Wednesday, the day after the show. We would all be given a call time and told who had to be camera ready for their interviews, which were cut down into those little 20-second clips shown before each performance. We would do hours and hours. It would be a whole day of filming on different locations and answering lots of different questions.
The interviews would continue into Thursday because they would usually think of something else they would want to use. Thursday was also the start of wardrobe. Some of us would go shopping or start looking at clothes that we would possibly wear for that following week.
Rehearsals started on Friday, but even on Wednesday and Thursday nights most of us would be rehearsing our song for that following week - working on our presentation and figuring out how to cut the song down to our allotted time. Sometimes we would also do shows together. We did a couple there in the Opryland Hotel for guests and employees.
So, Fridays were rehearsal days, and that would take up most of the day. Saturdays were also rehearsal days, which would take up probably half of the day. Saturday would also be wardrobe day for people who hadn't finished that up yet.
Sundays were pretty much our day off, but it really wasn't a day off because usually you had to catch up on cleaning up your room and going to do laundry. Just the normal kind of stuff - catch up on some sleep, exercise, try to do something different. Sunday nights we'd usually kind of hang out together. We'd watch a movie together or just chat.
Monday would be our first day at the theater where we would tape the show. That would be from 9:00 in the morning until probably 7:00 at night. That whole day we would be continually rehearsing our song and going through the whole show.
The stylists would also come in on Mondays and one of the last things we'd do is have our hair, makeup and clothes done as if it was show day. Then they would tape those recaps that everybody would see at the end of the show where they showed everyone's voting telephone number. We'd go to bed early on Monday night, as early as possible because we'd be exhausted from the long day.
Of course, Tuesday would be show day. Once again, we'd get into the theater really early and go through the show I don't know how many times. In the afternoons we'd start getting our hair and makeup done again and get ready for the live show that night. Then it would be show time!
