Eliminations Take Their Toll
What was it like for the cast when contestants started getting eliminated?
Terrible. It felt like we ran into a big, brick wall. None of us realized how difficult it was going to be. We were so focused on the wonderful parts of the show - picking our songs, rehearsing, performing, the clothes we wore, all the glamor side of it, but mostly just the music, the artistry side of it. We forgot about the fact that we have to say goodbye to somebody every week.
The first night when Josh got eliminated, I don't think that was the night that it hit us because I don't think we'd been together as a group long enough to become that attatched. No disrespect to Josh, he's a great guy, but we'd only been back a week when he was going home. But in the matter of just another week, we'd all had more time to bond...and maybe it was worse because it was Christy in particular.
Christy was the life amongst the whole group of us. For me, she was just an incredible positive energy. When you were exhausted and tired, you could always be sure that she was going to pep you up and motivate you and make you laugh.
So, after that additional week and when Christy got eliminated, that is when it hit us all. It got difficult because we had grown attatched to her. I certainly wasn't ready for Christy to go that week. It was hard. Everybody dealt with it in their own way, but everybody was feeling it.
After that night, everybody kind of went within themselves. That next day, everybody got very quiet. It was, "Oh, my gosh, who is going to go next week?" Then as each week goes by, you're living with the thought, "Is it going to be me next week?" The stoic side of you goes through the whole prep of the whole week of rehearsing and wardrobe, everything...with the other side of you saying "I may not even get to perform that night."
It's difficult. It's a big pendulum of emotions and it's constant, day in and day out. It's weird functioning in that environment every day.
